Oakland County Commissioner Tim Burns hosted the annual Flag Day Ceremony for the cities of Clawson and Troy at the Troy Historical Museum on Sunday, June 14 @ 2pm. The event featured the performance of the National Anthem and other patriotic songs by the Troy Community Chorus, a community recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance led by Clawson Mayor Penny Leubs and Troy Mayor Louise Schilling, a wax museum skit of famous American historical figures by Barnard Elementary School students, and a special musical presentation by the Baker Middle School Band Ensemble. Commissioner Burns also presented awards to Clawson and Troy’s “Outstanding Oakland County Volunteers of the Year” during the ceremony. This year’s recipients are Mike Kerr and Adam Campbell from Troy and Howie Airriess and Eva Joyce Burns of Clawson.

The program featured Ken Ross (Michigan Office of Financial & Insurance Regulation), Susan Tompor (Personal Finance Columnist with the Detroit Free Press), Rick Bloom (Financial Columnist with the Observer & Eccentric Newspapers), and Kathy Williams (a certified AARP and HUD mortgage counselor with Oakland County’s Community and Home Improvement Division).
